Donna's Data

By Donna Gorrell

The business report for the last meeting [June] was in the summer issue of Explorer. The online minutes are on the website at www.mvpcug.com. Speaking of which, please take the time to go to the site and view the pages. Over the summer there has been a change—one that the casual viewer may not notice. We are now being hosting by USADatanet and our SIGs are using a dial-up connection to USADatanet. Our Borg account had been free but recently we were notified that we have had to pay for their service at $19.95 per month. This did not include webhosting. We do pay USADatanet a monthly fee of $9.95 for the dial-up connection but the webhosting is free.

We also have entered into an agreement with USADatanet that Bill Gorrell has already told you about. Basically, if you sign up for their telephone service you will get a $5 credit and the club will also receive $5 if 25 people sign up within a 90 day period, which ends in mid September. You do NOT need to sign up for their dial-up ISP service, although the $5 credit can be used for either phone or ISP. So, pick up your phone, sign up and put money in both your pocket and the club’s treasury.
Have you enjoyed our newest column, Sites to Visit, giving URLs and info about several interesting web sites? If so, thank fellow member John Hunter <jhunter1@twcny.rr.com>, for searching out and reporting on the various sites. He is responsible for providing this material and is doing so in a very timely manner. This newsletter gets better with the addition of member articles. We are a great group working for the good of all, learning and sharing as we go along.

Some of our most successful and popular programs have been done by members, demonstrating programs they use every day. Products can be demonstrated by vendors but those of us who use these products on a regular basis and for practical purposes can sometimes better present the ins, outs, and nuances of the programs. If you are proficient in the use of any software programs that would be of general interest [for instance, graphics or digital photography or games] please let us know if you’d be willing to review the program and write an article for the newsletter and/or do a demonstration at a general meeting. "Members helping Members" says it all.
