MVPCUG Meeting Minutes

MVPCUG General Meeting

Minutes, Meeting of Tuesday, February 5, 2002

Held at: Whitesboro High School

President Jerry Finklestein called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M.

He announced the list of nominees for club officers as follows:

President Joe Madeira
Vice-president Jerry Finklestein
Treasurer Bill Gorrell
Secretary Marsha Thayer
Director Dave Askew

Jerry then said that we will be adding a 50/50 raffle to our regular drawing. The proceeds will
be used to help pay for drawing prizes. He told about the equipment sale that will be held at
next month’s meeting. Some of the club’s excess equipment will be sold at that time. Members
may bring items to be auctioned. They should state the minimum they will accept, and take
home unsold items after the auction.

Bill Gorrell read the treasurer’s report for December and January, since there was no January
meeting. He said the beginning balance for December was $6125.16. Income was $300.55.
Expenses were $1029.99, including the previously-authorized purchase of the new computer,
leaving a balance of $5395.72. For January, the beginning balance was $5395.72. Income was
$482.20 and expenses were $0.00, leaving a balance of $5877.92. He stated that we received $1
for the overhead projector a member purchased for parts.

Jerry said that new speakers were being used on loan, smaller and easier to carry than the ones
that the club owns. The sound seemed reasonable, and the membership made and passed a
motion to purchase a similar set of speakers.

Bob Schaffer introduced Matt McCann, who gave a lively demonstration of Quicken 2002,
Home & Business. He showed features that are new for this version, including auto-categorize,
on-line banking, getting current stock values for investments, portfolio analyzer, retirement
planner and college planner. His demonstration included several comical statements, which
made him very easy to listen to.

Matt showed how Quicken uses categories to keep track of where your money is going, and to
whom. He followed the demonstration with a question and answer session. There seemed to be
a high level of interest in his product. He passed out order forms for a special discount. The
deluxe version was available for $29.95, this night only. He also provided a copy for our
drawing, as well as a copy of a suite of products.

The drawing for door prizes was held. The winners and their prizes were:

Quicken Deluxe Marsha Thayer
Quicken Suite John Neustadter
56K modem Art Tooker
Encarta 2002 Jim Wasielewski
PrintMaster Gold Ed McLoughlin
World Book CD Gary Virkler
World Atlas CD George Bracken
Pooh’s Print Studio Jim Schmandt
Keyboard Ed Gaffney

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted,
Joe Madeira, Secretary
