MVPCUG Meeting Minutes

MVPCUG Meeting March 5, 2002

Held at: Whitesboro High School cafeteria.

President Jerry Finkelstein called the meeting to order at 6:10 P.M.

He asked how many members would be interested in a Quicken SIG. He got an adequate response, so a group will be formed, lead by Bo Wozniak. It will meet in the time slot formerly occupied by the Word Processing SIG.

Jerry then announced that an audit of the club's finances, as required by the by-laws, would be performed by Dan Reed.

He then stated, with the help of Bill Gorrell, that Borg will be raising their rates for internet service to bring them in line with other Bizz-on-Line companies. Club discounts will no longer be offered, and courtesy accounts may not be offered either. It was mentioned that Dreamscape still offers club discounts for their service. Members will miss this special treatment that we got from Borg.

Jerry asked for, and received, a motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting as posted on the club web site.

Jerry then said that we would not be able to offer a 50/50 raffle since we have not yet received state approval.

Bill Gorrell read the treasurer's report for February. He said the beginning balance for February was $5877.92. Income was $602.07. Expenses were $549.19, leaving a balance of $5930.80.

Jerry introduced the program co-chairman, Donna Gorrell, who told us that John Stroiney of Microsoft will return in April to show us their new version of Picture It. Donna presented certificates of appreciation on behalf of the club to Tim Clinehens for his service as webmaster for 3 years and to Jerry Finklestein for his 3 years as president. She was then presented with a bouquet of roses for her service to the club. Resounding applause closed the awards.

A motion was made to accept the slate of officers nominated by the board of directors by George Bracken, and seconded by Rod St. Clair. The motion was passed.

The list of nominees for officers is as follows:

President Joe Madeira
Vice-President Jerry Finkelstein
Treasurer Bill Gorrell
Secretary Marsha Thayer
Director Dave Askew

Bob Schaffer then introduced Donna Gorrell, who gave a demonstration of PC Stitch, a cross-stitch program. She showed how to select a pattern or import a photograph, crop it, and make it into a cross-stitch pattern. Some questions were asked and answered.

A break was taken to allow members to view the items available for bid. Then the auction was held, with Dave Askew as auctioneer. Tim Clinehens had provided numbers to all present for identification when bidding. Bidding on several items did not reach the minimum established by the owners, so these items were not sold. Bidding was generally light.

The drawing for door prizes was held. The winners and their prizes were:

48 CDR's and case Jerry Olmstead
PC Stitch program Rod St. Clair
Money 2002 Sherwood Berthold
Power Center Joe Madeira Jr.
Family Origins program Ray Tryon
Inside Office XP Kay Janowsky
Starter Pack for Dummies Bo Wozniak
CD Don Pianka

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted,
Joe Madeira, Secretary
