Every once in a while you receive an ad in the mail that peaks your curiosity. I received a mailer from a company called USA Datanet based in Syracuse. They were touting inexpensive long distance calling and unlimited Internet access. The mailer sat near my computer for several days as I checked out their Web site and compared my last phone bill to their rates. I called on a Sunday evening and my account was activated that night. I made my first phone call within a couple of hours of signing up. Since that time I’ve been a satisfied customer happily making more long distance calls than I have in some time and still saving money.

There are two different calling plans to choose from, the Northeast plan or the Flat 4.9¢/minute plan. I signed up for the Northeast plan. I can call anywhere from Maine to Virginia and the cost is never more than 99¢. Calls under ten minutes are 10¢/minute. My last bill was $19.77 for 1131 minutes of chat with my friends. If I had made these calls through my long distance carrier it would have cost me $113.

There are no monthly fees, no rate changes and no switching phone companies. This is a separate bill. All you have to do is call 1-877-499-2368 to register or check out their Web site at www.usadatanet.com. Obviously you need to share some personal data with them to set up an account but once that is all taken care of you are free to start calling and saving.

They provide several other services too. There is the college program, personal 800 numbers with two plan choices, a calling card and a referral program. If you refer someone and they sign up for service using your registered phone number both of you get a credit. All customers get a calling card and the details are posted on the Web site. The 800 number has two rate plans to choose from. The college program works in conjunction with the two calling plans mentioned above.

Another service they provide is unlimited Internet access for $9.95 a month. I haven’t personally used it as I’ve recently moved on to a cable connection but I have a couple of friends that use it and have heard NO complaints. There are no setup fees, unlimited emails accounts, no commitments and no advertising. You can’t beat the price and the service is as good as their long distance.

The customer service staff is another plus for this growing company. Anytime I have had the occasion to call them they have solved my problems and made me feel like part of the team. They are friendly, courteous, pleasant, helpful and attentive to the customer’s needs.
